It works best as a reward for players invested in the Crossbell and Cold Steel arcs, though its opening summaries help newcomers grasp the broad situation.

The Trails to Walk system lets you swap freely between the three routes at key points, so the larger plot unfolds from competing perspectives rather than a single hero’s viewpoint. Battles use the series’ strategic turn-based format: characters exploit elemental weaknesses, position on a grid-like field, spend CP on powerful Crafts, cast Arts, and coordinate Link attacks with partners. United Front attacks add another tactical layer by allowing a full combat group to unleash flashy team maneuvers after meeting party requirements. Outside the main routes, the True Reverie Corridor provides an optional dungeon-focused mode with randomized elements, character episodes, rewards, and a huge roster that encourages experimentation with party combinations.
