The LEGO Movie – Videogame

An ordinary construction worker becomes the accidental centerpiece of a rebellion in a bright, brick-built adventure packed with slapstick comedy and licensed crossover chaos. The LEGO Movie Videogame follows Emmet as he stumbles into the fight against the rigid, corporate rule of Lord Business, alongside the so-called Master Builders who can create almost anything from loose bricks. Its story closely follows the film’s major moments while expanding them into interactive levels full of gags, destruction, and collectible secrets. The tone stays light and family-friendly, but the constant parade of superheroes, wizards, historical figures, and LEGO oddballs gives it a wonderfully unpredictable energy.

Most of the action revolves around smashing scenery, gathering studs, solving simple environmental puzzles, and rebuilding broken objects into useful contraptions. Emmet initially relies on instruction manuals to construct designated builds, while Master Builder characters trigger a faster freeform building mode that turns scattered bricks into machines, bridges, and tools. Combat is deliberately accessible, with basic attacks, character-specific abilities, and plenty of enemies who burst apart into familiar LEGO pieces rather than presenting any serious threat. Levels encourage returning in Free Play with newly unlocked characters, since Superman’s strength, Batman’s gadgets, and other special skills open routes and collectibles unavailable during a first visit; local drop-in co-op also makes the campaign an easy shared experience.

What separates it from earlier Traveller’s Tales LEGO adaptations is its focus on the movie’s building fantasy, especially the contrast between Emmet’s instruction-following routines and the Master Builders’ improvisation. The game also recreates the film’s distinct plastic texture and stop-motion-inspired charm, so even familiar locations feel like elaborate physical toy sets. More than 90 playable characters provide substantial fan-service, although their roles are often more useful for completion than for radically changing the gameplay. Anyone who enjoys LEGO Batman, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, or relaxed cooperative collectathons finds plenty to like here, while newcomers get one of the more approachable entries in the long-running LEGO adventure formula.
