The tone balances Peter’s wisecracking heroics with Venom’s destructive menace, giving the campaign more personality than most superhero games of its era.

Story missions alternate between Spider-Man and Venom at key points, while optional city events, races, combat challenges, and collectible comic covers reward players who roam beyond the main plot. Venom plays like a deliberate power fantasy: he bounds across blocks, uses tendrils to slingshot himself forward, tears through enemies with claws, and can hurl vehicles or drain civilians to restore health.

The dual-protagonist structure makes the open world feel far less repetitive than a typical superhero sandbox, since movement, combat, and even the scale of destruction change completely between missions. Spider-Man offers the agile, expressive traversal later superhero games continue to chase, while Venom supplies the kind of reckless brute-force action rarely available in the genre. Its mission design and camera show their mid-2000s age, and the city is smaller than modern open worlds, but the stylized presentation still holds up remarkably well.
