A lonely summer trip to a rumored haunted mountain becomes an exercise in mounting dread rather than outright spectacle. Urayama places you in the shoes of a student who visits an isolated rural location during school break, only to feel that another presence is following his every move. The setting leans into the particular unease of Japanese urban legends: quiet paths, empty spaces, and ordinary scenery that gradually stops feeling safe. Its horror is restrained and psychological, building tension through atmosphere and implication instead of constant shocks.

Played from a first-person perspective, the experience centers on walking through Urayama, observing the environment, and following the unsettling trail left by whatever occupies the area. There is no action-heavy combat loop to break the mood; progress comes from pushing farther into places that clearly feel wrong and noticing the details that make the story cohere. The pacing suits a compact horror session, with the player’s vulnerability and limited control helping each new sound or visual disturbance land harder. A VHS-style visual filter gives the footage an old-recording texture, though it can be disabled for players who prefer a cleaner image.

What makes Urayama effective is its focus on a believable, almost mundane summer atmosphere before turning that familiarity into discomfort. The lo-fi presentation and first-person framing evoke the short-form Japanese horror of developers such as Chilla’s Art, where loneliness and ambiguity do much of the frightening work. Two different endings add modest replay value and encourage a second look once the initial tension has faded. It is best suited to players who enjoy slow-burn walking simulators, folklore-driven scares, and concise horror stories more than elaborate puzzles or survival mechanics.
