Feudal-Japan-inspired Azuma becomes a harsh hunting ground where towering Kemono reshape forests, coastlines, and villages with elemental fury. WILD HEARTS is a deliberate action-hunting RPG built around studying monsters, surviving punishing encounters, and turning the environment against the prey. Its creatures feel less like ordinary animals than walking natural disasters, from rage-fueled boars to birds that command ice and wind. The tone lands between heroic fantasy and wilderness survival, with every successful hunt feeling earned rather than routine.

Hunters track targets through varied regions, gather materials, craft stronger armor and weapons, then return for increasingly demanding battles. Combat uses a range of distinct weapon styles, including nimble blades, heavy mauls, bows, and more technical options, each asking for different timing, positioning, and stamina management. The defining tool is Karakuri: ancient construction tech that lets players instantly place crates, springs, gliders, barricades, traps, and larger mechanisms during a fight. A well-timed wall can stop a charging beast, while a hastily built platform creates an opening for an aerial strike; learning these improvised tools is as important as learning a monster’s attack patterns. Hunts work solo or in seamless online co-op for up to three players, where coordinated building and complementary weapon choices make difficult targets far more manageable.

Karakuri gives the familiar Monster Hunter-style loop a more reactive, creative rhythm, rewarding players who improvise instead of simply memorizing combos. Azuma’s colorful, stylized landscapes contrast nicely with the violence of its mutated wildlife, and the changing monster behavior keeps repeat hunts from becoming entirely mechanical. Progression has plenty for dedicated grinders, with weapon upgrades, armor skills, and high-level Kemono providing a meaningful endgame chase. Fans of Monster Hunter, Toukiden, or Nioh’s feudal fantasy atmosphere should find a lot to like, though newcomers need patience for its demanding fights and systems-heavy crafting.
