Cash heists, frantic chases, and urban shootouts replace the usual military front line in Battlefield Hardline, a first-person shooter built around the cops-versus-criminals fantasy. Its Miami-set campaign follows detective Nick Mendoza as a drug investigation pulls him through corrupt departments, cartel operations, and TV-crime-drama twists. The tone is more pulpy and personal than a traditional Battlefield campaign, with stakeouts, raids, interrogations, and explosive escapes sharing space with the expected gunfire. It still delivers huge spectacle, but the focus stays on crime scenes and city streets rather than tanks rolling across war zones.

As Mendoza, players scan environments for evidence, tag suspects, use a police scanner to identify targets, and choose whether to quietly arrest enemies or start a firefight. Flashbangs, stun guns, stealth takedowns, and non-lethal arrests reward a more methodical approach, while the campaign’s open-ended encounter areas let aggressive players fall back on rifles and shotguns when plans collapse. Multiplayer is the main attraction, supporting large-scale matches where teams fight over cash, hostages, objectives, and high-value loot across modes such as Heist, Blood Money, Hotwire, and Rescue. Vehicles matter, though the emphasis shifts toward police cruisers, muscle cars, motorcycles, and high-speed pursuits instead of all-out armored warfare; earned cash unlocks weapons, attachments, gadgets, and cosmetic gear.

Hardline stands apart because its best multiplayer ideas turn Battlefield’s sandbox chaos into a robbery movie: steal the money, secure it, escape with it, or stop the other side before they disappear. Maps make strong use of vertical routes, destructible cover, rooftops, alleys, parking structures, and ziplines, creating plenty of opportunities for daring flanks and last-second getaways. The campaign does not reach the scale or replay value of the series’ strongest multiplayer entries, but its arrest system gives it a welcome identity. Players who enjoy Battlefield 4’s gunplay but want a faster, more street-level setting should find plenty to like, while newcomers can easily jump into its accessible objective modes.
