Its mood is pulpy, eerie, and often funny in the way Hellboy stories should be, balancing ancient evil with a stone-fisted hero who would rather punch a monster than overthink it.

Combat centers on close-range scraps where timing matters far more than button mashing. Hellboy uses heavy punches, dodges, blocks, parries, firearms, and found melee weapons to dismantle creatures that demand attention to their attack patterns. Runs through the Wyrd involve branching routes, combat arenas, temporary upgrades, collectible charms, and escalating enemy encounters, so failure sends you back to regroup and approach the next expedition more intelligently. Mignola’s angular shadows, bold colors, and inked character designs give the game a visual identity few licensed adaptations match, making each monster and warped location feel lifted from a graphic novel panel. Lance Reddick’s performance as Hellboy adds gravitas to the dry one-liners and paranormal investigation framing. The roguelite structure does mean environments and battles can become repetitive over long sessions, and players expecting a large open-world adventure may find its mission-based format modest. Still, fans of Hellboy, comic-styled action games, and methodical brawlers in the vein of Hades’ repeat-run structure or Souls-lite combat will find a distinct, atmospheric adventure here.
