A besieged palace becomes a vertical playground for one of action-adventure’s most agile heroes. Set between The Sands of Time and Warrior Within, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands sends the Prince to aid his brother Malik, only to find an ancient supernatural army tearing the kingdom apart. The mood balances grand Arabian-fantasy spectacle with a surprisingly personal story about responsibility, power, and the consequences of trying to save everyone. Crumbling towers, flooded chambers, deadly traps, and vast armies make nearly every location feel like a disaster waiting to happen.

Movement remains the star: the Prince wall-runs, leaps between pillars, swings from poles, climbs sheer surfaces, and strings together long platforming routes that demand precise timing. His familiar ability to rewind mistakes makes difficult jumps less punishing, while new elemental powers dramatically expand traversal; freezing water creates temporary handholds, air dashes bridge impossible gaps, and other abilities manipulate the environment or bolster combat. Battles pit him against large groups of sand creatures, combining quick sword strikes, acrobatic evasions, magic attacks, and occasional crowd-control powers rather than the slower, counter-focused duels of earlier entries. Progression unlocks stronger elemental skills as the campaign introduces tougher hazards and increasingly elaborate platforming challenges, and the included door bug fix is especially useful for avoiding a notorious progression issue in the PC version.

What distinguishes The Forgotten Sands is its sense of scale. Earlier Sands of Time games often emphasize intimate puzzle chambers, while this installment regularly asks players to cross collapsing fortresses, scale monumental architecture, and survive huge enemy swarms without losing the series’ fluid movement. Its combat lacks the depth of the best character-action games, and the adventure is largely linear, but the constant flow between exploration, puzzles, and combat keeps the pace brisk. Fans of Assassin’s Creed-style free-running, the original Sands of Time trilogy, or cinematic action platformers find plenty to enjoy, while newcomers get an accessible standalone adventure with forgiving rewinds and satisfying spectacle.
