Sonic races through four themed zones, each divided into acts full of springs, rails, underwater routes, collapsing platforms, badniks, and alternate pathways. The most distinctive element is its attempt to bridge old-school Sonic structure with newer abilities, making it less purely momentum-driven than the Mega Drive originals. That approach divides fans: the physics feel heavier and more automated in places, especially on slopes and during homing attacks, yet the compact levels remain easy to pick up and satisfying to master. Bright HD visuals make every hazard readable, while the short acts suit quick sessions better than an all-night campaign.
