Combat revolves around choosing one Squad member and combining firearms, melee strikes, grenades, special abilities, and rapid traversal to dismantle swarms of Brainiac-controlled enemies. Harley swings and grapples through the city, Deadshot uses a jetpack for precise aerial shooting, Boomerang blinks across the battlefield with his speed-force gauntlet, and King Shark leaps across rooftops with brute force. Missions send you across an open Metropolis for story objectives, side activities, contracts, collectibles, and escalating endgame encounters, while dropped weapons and gear encourage frequent build experimentation. The entire campaign supports solo play with AI teammates or online co-op for up to four players, letting each person control a different member of Task Force X.

Its greatest strength is mobility: fights rarely ask you to hide behind cover, instead pushing you to stay airborne, switch targets quickly, and exploit a hero’s movement kit. The city feels like a distorted, alien-occupied extension of the Arkham universe, with recognizable DC locations and lore presented through a much louder looter-shooter structure. Post-launch content adds more characters, missions, and equipment, while an offline mode makes the core experience easier to revisit alone. Players who enjoy Borderlands-style loot chasing, fast third-person shooting, and superhero spectacle will find plenty to like, though Arkham fans looking for slow detective work, stealth rooms, and tightly focused brawling should adjust expectations.
