Death becomes a tool rather than a punishment in The Godkiller – Chapter 1, a large-scale puzzle adventure set in a strange, bureaucratic afterlife. You guide Emm, a newly deceased woman whose first meeting with God quickly turns into a conflict over freedom, authority, and who gets to decide her fate. The tone balances surreal comedy with a surprisingly personal rebellion, as celestial officials, eccentric inventors, royalty, and grass-protecting enforcers complicate every attempt to move forward. Its world feels less like a traditional heaven and more like an absurd machine built to keep souls in line.

Each of the 60 puzzle chambers asks you to manipulate space, hazards, and your own position with unusual freedom. Blocks are not merely shoved one tile at a time: Emm can hurl them across rooms, use them as platforms, and stack them upward to create paths that would otherwise be unreachable. Movement also becomes a puzzle resource, since throwing Emm can cross dangerous gaps or bypass obstacles, while deliberate death sends her back into play at strategically useful points. Patrols, traps, environmental devices, and level-specific contraptions steadily expand the possibilities, demanding careful planning instead of quick reflexes. Challenges are designed around experimentation, and failed attempts often reveal the intended logic rather than simply costing progress.

What separates it from standard Sokoban-style puzzlers is its willingness to turn familiar rules upside down: vertical construction, character-launching, and suicide-based resets make rooms feel like compact physics toys. Creator Erik Hermansen’s experience with Deadly Rooms of Death shows in the tightly authored layouts and in puzzles that reward thinking several moves ahead. Fully voiced scenes and a dozen original songs give Emm’s journey more personality than most abstract block-pushers, making the story worth following between difficult rooms. Puzzle veterans who enjoy DROD, Baba Is You, or Portal-style rule-bending find plenty to dissect, while patient newcomers can appreciate its clear premise even when the later solutions grow demanding.
