Brutal first-person brawling gives this surreal punk-fantasy adventure an identity few action games match. You play Ghat, an outcast fleeing the city of Halstedom alongside his companion Deadra after a violent break with his bizarre, dysfunctional family. The journey crosses hostile settlements, arid wastelands, and dreamlike landscapes populated by creatures that look carved from nightmares and folk art. Its mood is grim, strange, and occasionally darkly funny, with a deliberately alien world that never tries to make itself comfortable.

Most encounters take place at arm’s length, where Ghat throws punches, strings together quick combos, blocks incoming strikes, and sidesteps attacks before countering. Enemies often circle and swarm, so awareness matters as much as aggression; focusing on one opponent while ignoring the rest usually ends badly. Weapons such as clubs, blades, guns, and improvised tools appear during fights, but ammunition and durability prevent them from replacing the game’s hand-to-hand focus. The campaign remains largely linear and story-driven, using its combat arenas and brief travel sections to keep the pace moving rather than offering a sprawling open world.

ACE Team’s visual imagination is the real headline: every location, character, and weapon has an unsettling handmade quality that makes the setting feel unlike conventional medieval fantasy or sci-fi. The Source engine gives the punches satisfying weight, while the first-person view makes close combat feel unusually immediate and messy. Some mechanics show their age, including rougher enemy behavior and a compact running time, but the singular art direction and oddball narrative carry it through. Fans of Condemned’s vicious first-person melee, odd experimental indie worlds, and focused single-player action find plenty to appreciate, while players wanting polished shooting or deep character customization may need patience.
