Its story takes place between the original movie and its sequel, so expect familiar rules for surviving, chaotic road-trip detours, and a deliberately silly attitude toward dismembering zombies. The mood is fast, scrappy, and knowingly cartoonish rather than grim survival horror.

Players move through compact levels while aiming independently, blasting approaching zombies with firearms, melee options, explosives, and character-specific special moves. Campaign missions send the group through story scenarios, while a separate Horde mode focuses on holding ground against escalating waves and stronger enemy types. Boss encounters break up the routine with oversized threats that demand positioning, concentrated fire, and smart use of abilities. Local co-op supports up to four players, making it far more entertaining when everyone is shouting over crowded screens and competing for the flashiest kill.

The strongest feature is how closely it leans into the series’ game-like jokes: survival Rules provide recognizable guidance, while Zombie Kill of the Week objectives reward inventive carnage. Unlockable characters connected to the sequel add a small incentive to revisit modes, though the game’s straightforward arcade structure matters more than long-term character building. Levels are designed for immediate action instead of deep exploration, and the weapon handling favors accessible pick-up-and-play fun over the precision of a demanding shooter. Fans of Gauntlet-style co-op brawlers, Enter the Gungeon’s twin-stick chaos, or the Zombieland films will find an enjoyable couch multiplayer diversion here; solo players can still clear the campaign, but the party energy is clearly the main attraction.
