Speedollama channels the loud, chaotic spirit of 16-bit run-and-gun classics, mixing ridiculous humor with explosions, enemy chunks, and oversized war machines. The premise is knowingly silly: a veteran llama sends mercenaries underground in a tunneling craft to stop an invading force determined to wipe out llama-kind. Its bright retro presentation and cartoon violence keep the mood playful even when the screen becomes a storm of bullets and debris.

Players choose from three llama heroes, blast through hostile underground territory, and collect strange resources while pushing deeper into alpaca-controlled zones. Levels are procedurally assembled across nine distinct regions, so runs retain some unpredictability as enemy placements, hazards, and combat encounters shift around. Six weapons and 23 upgrades let you tailor the action toward raw damage, survivability, or more specialized projectile effects, while enemy variety includes standard soldiers, animal-backed threats, and heavy mechanical units. The campaign also throws nine bosses into the mix, demanding more careful movement and weapon use than the usual full-speed spray-and-dodge firefights.

What separates it from a straightforward Metal Slug imitation is its emphasis on burrowing forward through a bizarre war zone and steadily building a stronger mercenary through pickups. Thirty-six generated stages, plus eight bonus levels, give it more replay value than a short fixed arcade campaign, although its appeal rests primarily on immediate action rather than deep story or tactical planning. The chunky sprites, exaggerated animations, and deliberately juvenile gags recall Broforce and Mercenary Kings, while its frantic momentum also carries a little of Pizza Tower’s unruly energy. Anyone who enjoys old-school side-scrolling shooters, compact runs, and deliberately stupid llama-versus-alpaca mayhem should find plenty to like, while players wanting a serious military shooter or a highly precise bullet-hell challenge may find the comedy-first chaos less satisfying.
